How to get around

The Balearic Islands are connected to Spain and the main European capitals thanks to the three international airports of Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza. Mallorca Airport: Son Sant Joan is the airport of Mallorca as well as the main airport of the archipelago. It is only 8 km from the city of Palma and boasts four terminals, one of which is exclusively for connections with the other islands. Two bus lines connect the airport to the city centre. Numerous extra-urban lines connect the airport to the other main towns on the island. Ibiza Airport: 7 km from the city of Ibiza. The airport is connected to the city centre and the main towns of the island by numerous public service buses and an efficient taxi service. The airport also has numerous car hire companies from which you can hire a car and travel the island in total freedom. Menorca Airport: 4.5 km from the capital Mahòn and 47 km from Ciutadella, the second most important city on the island. The easiest way to get around Menorca is by car. There is an efficient taxi service connecting the airport to Mahon. The cost of the trip is around ten euros.

Places of interest

Nature reserves, white beaches, cities of art and a nightlife like few in the world. The Balearic Islands are packed with excitement, and you will be overtaken by their Spanish vitality. Mallorca: don't miss a visit to the impressive "La Seu" Cathedral and the city's historic centre with its stately buildings and Liberty architecture opening up onto delightful squares full of life. Menorca: declared a Biosphere Reserve for its variety of flora and fauna, Menorca still retains its authentic charm. The island's capital Mahòn is a must-see; its historic centre has many buildings of interest and the Ciutadella is amazing with its narrow streets and is a mosaic of different architectural styles. Ibiza: fashionable and cosmopolitan, Ibiza is famous for being the island of fun. In reality it has many places of historical and cultural interest, starting with the historic centre of its capital Dalt Vila, an expression of the island's enormous cultural variety. Formentera: this is the smallest of the Balearic Islands, and is most appreciated for its spectacular beaches and its trekking/bike paths immersed in the wild nature.

Best Beaches

The Balearic Islands are famous for the beauty and variety of their beaches lapped by a crystalline sea with every imaginable shade of green and blue. Es Trenc in Mallorca is a beach with fine white sand surrounded by dunes and Mediterranean vegetation. It has shallow waters and a crystal-clear sea reminiscent of exotic beaches. Cala Macarella and Macarelleta in Menorca are two shell-shaped coves surrounded by dense Mediterranean vegetation with an emerald sea. Cala Comte is the most famous beach on the island of Ibiza. Its golden sand and Caribbean sea have made it the most photographed beach on the island. Illetes in Formentera is counted among the most beautiful beaches in the world thanks to its white sand and crystalline sea.

Dining and entertainment suggestions

The excellent variety of food to be enjoyed on the Balearic Islands must not be forgotten. The most famous typical dishes are pork soppressata (headcheese), the Mallorca sopas (soups with meat and different vegetables depending on the season) and the typical Mallorca sweets known as ensaimadas. The Balearic Islands have a vibrant nightlife with three of the most famous pubs, clubs and discos in Europe.
