Information

Nosy Be, a 312-square Km volcanic Island, was initially inhabited by the Antankarana and the Zafinofotsy minor tribes and, subsequently, by the Sakalava tribe who, in time, was joined by the Comorian and the Indians (known as Antandroy) tribes. Nosy Be is firstly mentioned in the history of the Country when King Radama I decided to conquer the whole western area of the Island; such conquest took place in 1837. Today it is an important tourist and seaside destination that is visited more and more even by Italians. The climate is typically tropical with a particularly high humidity level in December, January and February.
